Thursday a.m. we left Monwana Lodge and headed to the very south end of Kruger Park to stay at our final amazing lodge in the park. We were quite late and they were starting to worry about us. NEXT TIME, we will get there earlier!
After a quick snack and beverage; we were off for the evening game drive. We were quite exhausted but were rejuvenated when we happened upon the most beautiful sunset some of us had ever seen. As we stood in awe and took 50 million sunset pictures; a lion growled/roared in the distance and we were off to find him. Our guide Nick and tracker Stranger (yes, his god given name) hurried us to our land rover. We came upon some very interesting and unique situations throughout the next 2 hours.
Off in the distance we spotted white rhino. Moving on we encountered a Hyena at a watering hole with two live Impala (a.k.a. dinner). He did not seem to pay any attention to them, not did it appear that they realized they Hyena was present. We had a tracker spot light on him and he got up and was on the move when suddenly, a rhino crossed his path. As we moved on, we encountered a white tailed mongroose, serval tracks, baby warthogs, more white rhino an then…………a wet and muddy hippopotamuss trotted across the road. All of us were a bit stunned, the sightings were happening boom boom boom; right after one another! According to Nick and Stranger – you always have to be alert (just like the animals) you just never know what you will see in the bush!
Night pictures are difficult so bear with, thanks.
Stranger, don't go! NO GUN!
Maddie B took this one!
Elephant Tracks. Did you know that if you measure the cirucumfrance of an elephants front foot and multiplied it by 2.5 that it equals the approximate height of the animal? I didn't, cool.
